Making your own baby food is not that difficult.  It’s actually very easy and much cheaper than store-bought baby food. Just give it a try you will be very proud of yourself for making these delicious foods for your brand-new baby.

If you are like me and want to know exactly what you are putting in your baby’s little belly, you came to the right place. I am going to share with you a few healthy recipes you can try at home.

Don’t be intimidated you don’t need to be a good cook to make your own baby food.  Go to the store and grab a few ingredients.

Now let’s get started!

We are going to make Purple Sweet Potatoes and Carrots Puree (You can use 1 or 2 each)

Purple Potatoes are beautiful and very healthy. They are rich in vitamin A and vitamin C. They are also a good source of potassium and magnesium.

Carrots are a good source of vitamin K, Potassium and fiber.

 How to cook them?

1.    Wash and scrub them to make sure they are clean

2.    Peel and cut the potatoes into small cubes. You can cut the carrots into long thin slices if you wish.

3.    Place the purple sweet potatoes and carrots in a separate pot and cover.   Cook for 10 to 20 min until tender.  If you cut them in small pieces, it should take less time. You can check if it’s tender by piercing it with a fork.

4.    Place in a separate bowl and put them in a blender or food processor. You can add water or some of the cooking liquid as needed until smooth.

I use Baby Cubes  (BPA free) for storing and freezing baby purees.  They are amazing and available in 2 oz. or 4 oz. portions.  It comes with 8 cubes, a tray, and 2 tags (for front and back) to write the date and the type of food.

I usually make a few batches and every night I will take out 4 cubes and put them in the fridge( can be kept in the fridge for up to 2 days).  The next day I heat them up in hot water or in a microwave for 10 seconds.  Make sure to throughout any leftover food after the baby is done eating.

If you want to introduce your little one with more than 1 ingredient, you can combine sweet potatoes with carrots.

Repeat the same process as for the Purple Potatoes and Carrots.

When they are cooked put them in a blender until smooth.

You can always make in large quantities and store them in a freezer (use within 1 month). If you use Baby Cubes, with 16 cubes, you should be good for at least 1 week.

The puree is ready! Bon appetit to your little one!

It’s important to encourage babies to try different textures.
